I worked together with Beacon that wanted to increase the visibility of one of its confectionery brands targeted at young children.
The brand, well-known in South Africa, aimed to build loyalty through an adventure theme that connected with its audience.
The goal was to boost sales and attract more children and their peers by presenting the brand as an exciting journey of discovering different flavoured jelly sweets in every pack—a real taste adventure.
Synopsis: Learnings from the this Packaging Refresh Project
This project provided valuable insights into the dynamic nature of creative campaigns and the importance of adaptability in the design process. While the goal was to refresh the packaging to align with the "tasting adventure" theme, I explored multiple design options to offer flexibility and creative variety. This taught me the value of presenting a wide range of concepts to ensure alignment with the client’s vision and brand identity.
The final choice—a simple yet effective design featuring the Jelly Tot Man swinging in—highlighted how simplicity can resonate deeply with the target audience. However, the unexpected budget constraints and shift in brand direction brought the project to an abrupt halt. This experience underscored the importance of maintaining open communication and staying agile to respond to evolving priorities.
I also learned the significance of balancing creative ambition with practical constraints, ensuring that designs are both imaginative and feasible within the given resources. Despite the project not moving forward, the process enriched my understanding of client collaboration, decision-making, and adaptability in the face of challenges.
